Thank you to the families who joined with St. Helen's College staff to attend Relay for Life last weekend. It was a lovely community event and we were delighted to be a part of such a worthwhile day, raising money for such a worthwhile cause.
With just a week to go the arrangements for the annual Summer Fete are well under way.
There is still time for parents to donate the following items as donation bins will be at Lower and Upper School entrances for the week leading up to 1st July 2017. Ducklings parents may hand donations to any member of Ducklings staff.
New/nearly new toys
If you would like to help in any way we are always in need of parent helpers to run stalls and help with set up and set down. Please do email us at email@example.com to register your interest.
We look forward to seeing you and your families on Saturday 1st July! The flyer is available here.
Please don't forget that next Friday will be a Charity Tog Day. The school is currently raising money for the Michael Sobell Hospice. The hospice cares for those suffering from cancer and our beloved colleague Ms Turner spent time there before losing her battle with cancer last year.
Friday 30th June will be a tog day for the whole school, with the theme 'people who help us'. Please help your child to come to school dressed as someone who helps us - ideas might include doctors, nurses, police, teachers, parents or anyone else they can think of. Each child should bring a donation for the charity on the day (suggested £2 minimum; all donations most gratefully received). At Upper School, Year 5 will be running a cake sale on Friday 30th June for Years 2-6, so Upper School children should bring in some extra money if they would like to buy a cake. Lower School children will be taking part in a competition to design a jumper for Henry Bear, with winners announced on 30th June. Our Ducklings children will be enjoying activities linked to 'people who help us'.
During the following week (week beginning 3rd July), we would like to ask parents to make donations of any new items (unwanted gifts etc). for resale in the hospice shop.
We thank you all, in advance, for your generosity in supporting the worthy work of the Michael Sobell Hospice.
The children in the Year 1 and Year 2 classes will be performing their Summer Concert plays at the Winston Churchill Hall in Pinn Way, Ruislip, on Thursday 6th July, at 1.30 p.m. (Y1) and 2.30 p.m. (Y2). Year 1 will be performing 'The Piper' and Year 2 will be performing 'The Bee Musical'.
Bookings for tickets (priced at £8 each) are now open and parents should book tickets by following this link:
If parents have children in both Year 1 and Year 2, you should buy tickets just for one of the shows and you will be permitted to see both.
We remind you that parents may now order tickets for 'Beauty and the Beast', which will be performed by our Year 6 children at The Compass Theatre, Ickenham on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th July. You may also pre-order a professional DVD recording of the show. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis and always sell out very quickly so please do not delay!
There are three performances:
Thursday 6th July 7.30 p.m.
Friday 7th July 2.00 p.m. matinee
Friday 7th July 7.30 p.m.
Parents are permitted to take children out of school on Friday for the matinee performance and we would encourage you to do so if you can, so that the younger children can enjoy the performance and see the standard to which they will aspire by the time they reach Year 6! Please let us know if you plan to take your child(ren) out of school for the matinee performance.
You may order tickets by following the link below.
Please note that, for copyright reasons, parents will not be allowed to take photographs or use video recording devices during the performances. We have arranged for a professional filming and editing company to record the performance and hope that it will provide parents with a wonderful souvenir of what we are sure will be a superb evening. DVDs are priced at £13. The school does not make any profit from the sale of the DVDs which are sold at cost price. If you would like to place an order, please complete and return the order form (available here) to the school office by Friday 30th June.
The DVDs will be given to children in the final week of term.
Bookings are now open for the Summer Holiday Club and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Full details and the booking form are available here.
Prep Sports Day
Despite the soaring temperatures on Wednesday our athletes in Years 3 - 6 kept their cool to produce some memorable performances and a great competition between Windsor and Cambria houses. Outstanding individual record breaking performances where achieved by Tiago A, who broke the old record by 9 cm in the high jump, Nicolas S, who broke a 16 year old record in the Year 4 boys' hurdles race and Abigail Y who broke a 13 year old record in the Year 5 girls' 200m. In a family rivalry, Zoe P broke her sister Zoe's 800m school record. Other records were broken by Chiara L and Faisal A in Year 4, Lincoln B, Ryeesa S, Amishi K and Ethan V-B in Year 5 and Daniel B, Tia P and Leo G in Year 6. Tennis Champions of the future?
Our Year 1 children, who have been taking part in the LTA's 'Tennis for Kids' programme this term, proudly showed off their new tennis rackets. The sessions delivered by Miss Walker, an LTA coach, have introduced the children to fantastic forehands, ballistic backhands and super serves through fun and games. The children have also had homework challenges each week to find out more about tennis and to practise their skills. The children are now looking forward to completing the 6 week course and hopefully continuing to play tennis this summer and when they join Year 2 in September.
The Year 5 and 6 girls' rounders team played a friendly match against St. Mary's School on Thursday. In their first match of the season, the St. Helen's College girls played well and developed their tactical awareness. The first innings was very close, with St. Helen's scoring 3.5 rounders and St. Mary's scoring 4 rounders, but in the 2nd innings St. Mary's demonstrated some good striking and field skills to win the innings 7.5 to St. Helen's 1.5 rounders. Next week the girls along with the boys will compete at the District rounders competition.
Fun was had by all in the lunchtime dance club run by Mrs. Moore this week as the girls danced around the maypole, performing traditional English dance patterns to weave the ribbons on the maypole. After a few attempts the girls managed it!
We are now able to publish this year's Year 6 leavers' results and destinations, which you can see here (Leavers' Destinations) and here (Academic Results).
Once again, our Year 6 children have done exceptionally well to achieve places at a range of excellent schools and to achieve such a high grammar school pass rate! They have also continued to enjoy and achieve highly in many diverse areas of the co-curriculum, including music, sport, drama and much more. They are currently busy preparing for their end of year summer production, Beauty and The Beast, and we are all looking forward to seeing them perform for one last time as St. Helen's College pupils.
The uniform and kit lists for the academic year 2017-18 have now been posted to the All School Documents page of the website. Please do check them carefully and ensure that your child has everything necessary for the new academic year in September. We thank you, as always, for your support in ensuring that St. Helen's College children are smart, neat, tidy and properly equipped for their busy time at school!
