We were delighted to open the new treehouse this week and the children have been playing on it very happily for the last few days! The treehouse was requested by children through School Council and has been partly funded by the PA. We are very grateful for the PA's donation and for the hard work of Mr. Hemkes, who helped to design the treehouse and worked so hard on its construction. Today School Council voted for a name for the treehouse and the winner, which cleverly includes the sound of the word 'tree', was The Retreat. The treehouse features a built-in hutch and run for the school rabbits, Bugsy and Poppy, as well as a swing seat and climbing ropes. As you can imagine, it is proving to be a very popular new play area.
Borough Hockey Runners Up
Last Friday a team of pupils took part in the School Games Hillingdon Primary Schools Quicksticks Hockey Tournament at Eastcote Hockey Club. We progressed through our group, winning three and drawing one, scoring thirteen goals on the way to the quarter final. In the quarter final we met St. Swithun Wells and won the game 4-1. In the semi final we took on Harlyn School and defeated them 4-0 to set up a local derby final against St. Andrew's School. Unfortunately we were defeated 4-1 to finish runners up for the second year running. This was a great achievement for the six players who competed, as there were 30 schools taking part in the tournament. We scored an amazing number of goals on our way to the final and conceded very few. Congratulations to the team and thank you to the parents who withstood the freezing weather to support us! Team members were: Ayomide, Ayobami, Ethan, Sophie, Georgia and Shian.
Sports Hall Athletics Team Qualify for Finals
Our Year 6 sports hall athletics team took part in the first round of qualifying heats for the School Games at Crystal Palace held at Barnhill Community School this week against four other schools from across the borough. All team members took part in a range of running, throwing and jumping events to score points for the team. After some close initial races and some solid performances in the field events, the final four relay races were to be crucial and the team displayed outstanding commitment and teamwork, showcasing some smooth changeovers to win three out of the final four relay races. The results were announced; 5th place Ryefield, 4th place St Mary's, 3rd place Bishop Winngton Ingram, 2nd place Hillingdon and 1st place St. Helen's College! For the second year running, our team has qualified for the Borough Finals in January, where the top five schools from the borough will compete. Well done to all our team members: Tito, Georgia, Sophie, Shian, Rumanique, Seun, Sam E, Sammy K, Sam F, Foluwa, Ayomide and Ayobami.
We would like to encourage children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to take part in a new poetry competition.
Prep schools across the country are invited to submit their best original poem on the themes below. This exciting competition will be an opportunity for the independent sector to show off its best poets and encourage pupils to use their observational language, performance and creative skills. All schools’ winning poems will be published and the top 20 poems in each category will be shortlisted for a Recital, to take place at St. Martin’s Ampleforth Prep School in February, 2016.
The competition is open to children in two age groups - Years 3 and 4 should write a poem on the theme ‘My Best Friend’ and Years 5 and 6 should write about ‘The World Around Us’. Entrants are free to use any poetic form of their choice.
The overall winner will receive an iPad mini and the runner up book tokens to the value of £50. The closing date for entries is Friday 8th January, 2016. Please hand entries to the school office. The Recital and prizegiving ceremony will be on Saturday 6th February, 2016 at St Martin’s Ampleforth Prep School, Gilling Castle.
We do hope that many of our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils will take part and we look forward to reading their entries!

PA Christmas Parties – Saturday 28th November 2015
We are looking forward to welcoming the children to a magical Christmas party on Saturday! There is another event at the stadium so there will be limited space in the car park so please car share if possible. Please do remember to purchase a ticket for the car park on arrival.
As always all the children will receive an advent calendar and a special present from Santa, please do encourage the children to take the present home to open on Christmas day to avoid excess litter and any mix up of presents. The children will be provided with a light snack bag and drink to take home when they leave.
Photos will be taken to capture that special moment with Santa. These are available for £2 so please let us know on arrival if you would like a photo. We have hired a professional photographer and photos will be printed and distributed before the end of term.
We will also have a raffle on the day with some great prizes so please do look out for this!
A portion of the PA funds raised over the year are used to subsidise the Christmas Parties so we hope the children do thoroughly enjoy their day.

2C presented a stunning assembly on Space today. They used a game-show format with television presenters and a space quiz, and using this they managed to tell us many facts about space and famous spacemen. They performed with great confidence, delivering complicated facts as well as at other times being comic and dramatic. They also sang and danced with enthusiasm, clearly enjoying their presentation subject matter.
