Eurotalk Language Competition
It is not too late for your child to join the challenge if they would like to do so. It is a national competition, during which pupils are invited to learn three languages over six months. All participants must be aged 10 or under on 1st September 2014. There is an entry fee of £5 per pupil, payable by parents, for which your child will receive £29.99 worth of beginners' software for the first round language. This year, the first round language is Italian and the first round closes on 20th June. The entry fee goes to Onebillion, a charity which works to bring basic education to children in some of the world's poorest countries.
The first round of the competition runs online, so the children can listen, play and learn on computers at school or at home. The highest scorers go on to regional semi-finals and a grand final in London with the chance of winning the top prize of a family holiday to Africa. Just two years ago, a St. Helen's College pupil won the grand prize and there is no reason why, with similar dedication, one of the school's current pupils should not repeat this success! Full details and an entry form are available here. Please let Mrs. Stark know by email if you would like to enter as soon as possible, so that she can register your child. Please do encourage your children to enter.
Relay for Life Poster Competition
Pupils should create a picture which fills one side of a sheet of A4 paper using as a theme the message: ‘Eating Healthily’. There will be a prize for the best entry from those in each of three age bands: under 7s, 7-9s, and 9-11s (age on 4th July 2014). Winners in each age group will receive a book token and winning entries will be printed in the Harrow Observer and displayed at the CRUK Relay for Life Harrow event to be held on 6th & 7th September 2014 at the Bannister Sports Centre, Harrow Weald. A selection of work might also be displayed at local London Underground stations.
The picture can be made in any way using any pens, crayons, pencils or other materials but should not extend beyond an A4 sheet. Electronic entries will not be accepted. Each entry should be labelled on the reverse with the pupil’s name, date of birth, and the name of our school.
There is no entry fee for this competition. Children can submit more than one entry if they wish, but each child can only win one prize.
Please submit your entries to the school office by Monday 30th June at the latest so that we may send them in to the judges. Happy designing!
