It is not too late for your child to join the challenge if they would like to do so. It is a national competition, during which pupils are invited to learn three languages over six months. All participants must be aged 10 or under on 1st September 2014. There is an entry fee of £5 per pupil, payable by parents, for which your child will receive £29.99 worth of beginners' software for the first round language. This year, the first round language is Italian. The entry fee goes to Onebillion, a charity which works to bring basic education to children in some of the world's poorest countries.
The first round of the competition runs online, so the children can listen, play and learn on computers at school or at home. The highest scorers go on to regional semi-finals and a grand final in London with the chance of winning the top prize of a family holiday to Africa. Just two years ago, a St. Helen's College pupil won the grand prize and there is no reason why, with similar dedication, one of the school's current pupils should not repeat this success! Full details and an entry form are available here. Please let Mrs. Stark know by email if you would like to enter as soon as possible, so that she can register your child. Please do encourage your children to enter.
