The event, held at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre, saw 12 schools take part in a variety of individual events and relays including backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Initially our swimmers swam heats to see if they could qualify with a fast time for the final and they were successful at reaching seven finals out of eight. Ayomide swam first in the boys' breaststroke final and, with a flying dive from the blocks, he led the rest from start to finish, claiming our first gold medal of the night. Sophie then swam in the girls' breaststroke final and narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place. Olivia swam next in the backstroke final, again narrowly missing a medal and finishing in 4th place, as did Alex in a very close freestyle final. Libby was our next finalist in the girls’ freestyle event. It was a close race to the half way point but then Libby powered ahead, claiming our second gold medal of the night. All our swimmers reached the relay finals and in the medley relay our team of Aaron, Alex and Olivia came 4th, just missing out on a medal place. In the freestyle relay our team of Libby, Ayomide and Sophie were in blistering form, finishing the race in style and winning gold. In the overall team event we won the Millennium Relay shield for the teams’ performances in relays on the night and came 2nd by just 2 points behind Hillingdon School in the combined relay and individual cup. Very well done to everyone who swam for the team.
