During the week of the 27th January St Helen’s will be having a money and finance themed week. We have lots of exciting activities planned for the children which we hope they will find both informative and enjoyable.
The maths lessons for the week will be based around problem solving and using maths in real life situations and the children will have the opportunity to be taught by different teachers throughout the week.
On Tuesday a company will be visiting the Lower School and delivering ‘Magical Maths’ themed shows and workshops to the foundation stage and Key Stage 1 children. The shows include magic tricks where maths concepts and vocabulary are explored, such as ‘finding the difference’ repeating patterns, sensible guessing, 2D and 3D shapes and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
On Thursday a finance company will be visiting the Upper School to teach the children about the importance of saving. With team work activities, individual calculations and question time, the money workshops aim to give the children greater confidence with money and hopefully start some great financial habits.
Throughout the week we will be running a competition and asking the children to create a 3D shape of their choice and accompany it with a fact sheet describing the faces, edges, vertices and interesting properties of their chosen shape. We hope you enjoy working with your child on this and we look forward to seeing what they create!
The Maths for Parents workshops will no longer take place on Thursday 30th January. Instead, Meet the Teacher evenings in September each year will include an overview of maths teaching for your child's new year group.
