The Mark rewards schools for commitment to, and development of, PE, sports clubs and competitions. The award recognises the hard work that staff undertake to ensure that all pupils have access to a wide breadth of sports opportunities within the school.
Children are offered a huge range of sporting opportunities during their time with us, from traditional sports like football, rugby, netball, hockey, tennis and athletics to activities such as taekwondo, yoga, swimming, ice-skating, tri-golf and badminton. One of the key features of the award is the leadership and organisation of sport participation and competition by our 'School Games Crew' - our Sports Captains, playleaders, Y5s at Infant Sports Day and School Council, for example. Another is the strong links our school has developed, over many years, with local clubs and agencies. We have a number of coaches from local organisations who run clubs at school and we visit local clubs and sports centres. We work hard to develop pathways for pupils to get involved further in sport outside of school.
Offering B and C team competitions and internal regular inter-house competitive sport is also a key area for the award, along with encouraging all pupils to get involved in sport. We are very proud that currently 82% of pupils are regularly participating in sports clubs outside of curriculum time, a 9% increase from the previous year.
We know that parental support, from watching matches to washing kits, is very important in making sure that pupils enjoy their sport and we thank you for all that you do to ensure that your children can be involved in, and enjoy, the opportunities on offer to them.
