Our Swimming team took part in the Primary Schools Swimming Gala held at Hillingdon Leisure Complex earlier this term against schools from across the district. The team of Year 5 and 6 pupils performed extremely well qualifying from their heats to four finals and then gaining medals in team relay races and individual events. Aarian from Year 5 displayed real swimming talent in the individual freestyle final, which climaxed in an exciting fingertip touch finish, with Aarian just coming second to gain the silver medal. Oyin then followed in the girls' freestyle final, again narrowly coming 2nd to gain a silver medal. Balraj battled hard in the backstroke final finishing 4th in a tough race. Aarian then teamed up with fellow team members Aria and Mahmoud in the freestyle relay and in another exciting final the St Helen's team were just pipped to the touch and had to settle for silver medals. Well done to all the team members.
St. Helen's hosted the first of three summer term basketball festivals last week to promote and develop basketball opportunities for pupils in Year 6. Pupils from St. Catherine's School came to St. Helen's for an evening of friendly 3 v 3 street basketball matches. Both boys and girls play together in this fast and fun basketball format. Next month St. Helen's will host the second festival in the series and teams from Oak Farm and St. Catherine's will again join the St. Helen's basketball squad for an evening of games.
Well done to our tri golf team who have been selected to represent Hillingdon Borough at Crystal Palace at the Mini Youth Games in July. The team attended a specialist training session at Harlington Community School led by Sports Leaders from the school this week and were able to practice all the skills stations they will have to perform in the Mini Youth Games competition. They will join our mini tennis team who have already qualified for the games at Crystal Palace.
Our Year 6 athletics team took part in an the annual Borough Quad Kids athletics event this week held at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex. This exciting event involves all team members competing in four disciplines: 75m sprint, 600m, vortex ball throw and a standing long jump, scoring points for their team in the process. The competition from schools across the Borough was extremely stiff but our team performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who have successfully completed and passed their level one and two Bikeability award. The pupils have received training over the past four weeks on Saturdays from the London Borough of Hillingdon cycle team. They have been instructed on how to maintain their bicycles, how to cycle in a responsible way and stay safe whilst cycling on local roads. Many congratulations to everyone.
