Some of our pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the District cross country championships this week. With over 80 boys and 80 girls running over a 2km course the results St. Helen's achieved were excellent. In the girls' event, Elsie G-J finished 9th, Abigail Y finished 12th, Tito O finished 20th, Tia P finished 23rd, Sherifa G finished 31st, Ryeesa S finished 33rd, Zara S-P finished 40th and Lily F (DNF). These finishing positions contributed to our girls' team coming 3rd place and gaining bronze medals for their efforts. In the boys' event, Sam F finished 3rd, Timi O from Y4 had an outstanding run against much older boys to finish in 5th place, closely followed by Sammy K in 10th and Dhiren W in 11th, Tiago A came in 15th, James K in 31st and Deepraj in 36th place. The boys' team ran very well and their finishing positions gained the team 2nd place overall to gain silver medals, only 1 point behind the team winners Oak Farm in a very close competition. Both teams have now qualified for the Borough cross country championships to be held after half term.
Our Y4/5 netball team took on St. Mary's, Gerrards Cross this week in a friendly hi five match. Our team were able to put into action many of the skills and patterns of play they have be practising in lessons this half term to produce a solid performance against formidable opponents. During the first half it was very close with only a few goals scored, but St. Helen's led 2 - 1 at half time. During the 3rd quarter some excellent shooting from Elsie G-J, scoring 3 goals, ensured St. Helen's went on to win the match 5 - 1. The St. Helen's player of the match, awarded by the St. Mary's team, was Zoe P and the St. Mary's player of the match, awarded by the St. Helen's team, was Ellie; both players received certificates. Well done to all our players: Riya K, Ryeesa K, Zara S-P, Ruby C, Genevieve L, Zoe P, Elsie G - J and Sharvari J.
Many congratulations to our Y4 football team who took on St. Andrew's in a friendly match this week and triumphed, winning 10 - 0! The team, with goals scored, was as follows: Joseph F, Max E, Lincoln B, Amrit R (3), Ryeesa S, Jai S (3), Timi O (1, Captain), Jed H (2), Daniel C and Arusan U-H (1). Very well done to all of those involved.
Our netball and football teams have made a good start to the School Games league competitions this term. The netball team played Cowley St Laurence first, winning 15 - 0 and this week played Oak Farm and won 8 - 1. The team is currently top of the league table. The football team have played two league games so far, losing the first very unluckily 3-2 and winning the second convincingly 3-0. We also won our first round game in the cup competition, beating Cherry Lane 1-0. It has been a good start to the season with the team playing some fast-paced, high tempo football.
