Our Year 3 and 4 tennis teams took part in the School Games Borough Schools Tournament this week held at Tripletts Community Tennis Centre. Each team consisted of two boys and two girls and each player played one singles rubber in matches against other teams. Timi, William, Ryeesa and Genevieve were in the A team and Rishi, Amrit, Grace and Zara were in the B team. With some great serving from Rishi and William, super hitting into spaces from Timi and Genevieve, consistent play from Ryeesa and Zara and good returning from Grace and Amrit, both of our teams did very well in the round robin groups. The A team beat Minet, Hayes Park and Hillingdon to win the group and the B team also won all of their group matches, beating Cranford Park, St. Andrew's and Highfield to win their group. So both teams progressed to the quarter finals, where St. Helen's A played Minet and the B team played Dr. Tripletts. Both teams were successful and so secured a place in the semi finals. In the semi finals our teams came up against strong opponents from Botwell and Whiteheath. Our B team lost 3-1 to Whiteheath and the A team drew 2 - 2 with Botwell, but after a countback on points won it was Botwell who progressed to the final to face Whiteheath. After a very entertaining final, Botwell were crowned Borough champions and our A and B teams received their bronze medals. Well done to everyone who took part and played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
