Our Year 5 netball team took part in a Hi Five netball festival at St. Mary's School, Gerrards Cross this week. Teams from St. Mary's School, Little Chalfont School, Chartridge School and St. Helen's College took part in the event, aimed at introducing Year 5s to competitive netball. All players have to rotate positions at the end of each quarter, so skills are developed in areas including defence, attack and shooting. Our girls played very well indeed, displaying good flowing attacking moves and some determined defensive work. This resulted in the team winning all of their matches and finishing the festival as champions. Congratulations to team members Tise,Yasmin, Olivia, Emma, Dayna, Navika, Abigail and Mia.
St. Helen's College hosted the hockey team's first match of the season at Brunel University this week against opponents St. Benedict's School, Ealing. Our Year 5 and 6 girls, some of whom had never played a hockey match before, took on an experienced St. Benedict's team and during the first quarter kept pace with the St. Benedict's girls. As the match progressed, the experience of the visiting team showed but our girls did not give up and continued to play with a great deal of heart until the end. Afterwards the teams shared refreshments and congratulated each other on the match. Further hockey fixtures are planned for both boys and girls with St. Benedict's and other schools later this term. Well done to all the girls who took part: Rachel, Millie, Shayla, Dayna, Olivia, Mia, Sophie, Aria and Anneka.
