Our Tag rugby teams took part in the Borough tag rugby competition this week, an event open to all primary schools in Hillingdon, held at Ruislip Rugby Club and supported by Ruislip RFC and Wasps RFC. Our teams, made up of boys and girls from Years 5 and 6, had been training hard this term despite the recent snowy weather and their effort and determination showed as they all performed very well in the matches they played. Our B team gained lots of valuable experience in the group matches but did not progress to the knock-out rounds. However our A team grew in confidence with every match in the group stages, beating Bourne School, Oak Farm School, William Byrd School, Whiteheath School and Hillingdon Primary School to reach the semi finals undefeated. There they met Whiteheath again but this time their A team, who we had beaten in last year's final, and the Whiteheath team were keen not to repeat last year's result. In an extremely close match, with an excellent performance from the St Helen's team, with tries being scored at each end of the pitch, our team narrowly lost 5 - 4. Finishing in joint third place, they were awarded Bronze medals. Mr. Lewis, who coaches the team, said, 'I was really pleased with how the teams played today and the fantastic progress they have all made with relatively few practice sessions due to the weather this term. Well done St. Helen's!'
