Last year the HIllingdon Road Safety Team held a cartoon competition - it was extremely successful with over 1000 entries! The winners received a Kindle and had their cartoons included in three comics which can be found in schools and libraries across Hillingdon.
This year the Road Safety team are running two competitions, one for Year 1/Year 2 and the other for Year 3 - Year 6.
Details of the competitions are as follows:
KS1 Competition (Year 1/Year 2)
Children are asked to draw their own illustrations for a Road Safety story about Grace and her friend Snugglefluff, who are learning all about road safety. Pupils will each bring home a sheet today with a part of the story and a space for their drawing. Entry is voluntary. Please return entries to school by Friday 16th October.
KS2 Competition (Year 3 - Year 6)
Pupils are asked to submit a design for a new mode of transport or road safety device to be used in the future. As well as providing a visual depiction of their design, entrants will have also to explain a bit about their creation, how it works and why it is safe.
This year's winning designs will be included in the 2015 Hillingdon Schools "Design Manuals" with fantastic prizes waiting for the winning entrants.
· Provide a depiction of their invention/transport device using labels to indicate the various design functions and accessories included.
· Be able to explain how their design works and why they consider it safe.
· Demonstrate through their design an understanding for safe and sustainable travel as well as the need for safety devices/equipment.
For Years 3-6 you will see attached the application form on which pupils must produce their designs or drawings. They must also fill in all the details required for the entry. Entries must be returned to school by Monday 3rd November at the latest.
