Parents form a vital extension to the ‘teaching team’, and their support, through help with homework, discussions and visits relevant to the curriculum, and through their encouragement, is crucial. We like to forge close links with parents, who are encouraged to get to know their child’s teachers, to keep in touch, and to attend and participate where possible in school activities. Many special events take place each year, to which parents are warmly welcomed. Examples include concerts, drama productions, sports days, harvest festivals, nativity plays and carol services. By arrangement with the teachers, some parents help in class, with reading or art perhaps, or on outings. Many get involved with the Parents' Association, which organises fetes, dances and parties, second-hand uniform sales and quiz nights. Some parents become class representatives on the Parents’ Forum, which meets with the Head Teachers termly to discuss school policy, organisation and development.

A message from the Parents' Association:

The emphasis of the Parents’ Association is not simply fund raising but also having some fun and forming new friendships. Our regular annual events are the Summer Fête and the children’s Christmas parties. Parents of the children at St.Helen’s College are automatically members of the Parents’ Association.

Committee meetings are informal, generally starting at 8 or 8.30pm and lasting about an hour and a half; all parents are welcome to attend. The frequency and timing of meetings are determined by the planning of upcoming events. The dates of planned meetings are set out below. If you are interested in coming along please contact one of the members listed below for details of venue (and date if no meetings are listed!).
