Thank you for coming to support 6L at their final assembly. I’m sure you’ll all agree that they performed beautifully.
Next term we will be starting our preparations for the musical play, Alice in Wonderland, which we shall be performing at The Compass Theatre. Year 6 parents are traditionally very supportive with the play, helping with costumes, make-up and general supervision at the theatre. If there is any way in which you are able to offer support, do let me know.
Our Sex and Relationship Education programme also begins next term. Please make sure you come to the meeting if you would like to see the content of the lessons and have any questions.

The focus of this term’s Drama lessons will be the Summer production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. KS
We will read ‘‘A Midnight Fox’ by Betsy Byars and study various types of poetry in preparation for writing. KS
We will write our own personification and simile poems along with a poem based on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
Mrs. Savage’s Class
We will study the units below:
Handling data: mean, mode, median and range; interpreting diagrams; describing probabilities.
Space, Shape and Measure: triangles; quadrilaterals.
Number: percentages, proportion; ratio.
Mr. Lewis’s Class
We will study the following units:
Number: percentages, proportion and ratio.
Space, Shape and Measure: Transformations including rotation, reflection, enlargement and translation; accurate geometric drawings. The children need geometry sets, including a good pair of compasses for these units.
We will continue to study ‘forces in action’ and will focus on performing whole investigations more independently. We will consider ‘Hooke’s law’ and will investigate the elasticity of spring and elastic bands. The children will continue to learn ways of handling data in the form of line graphs, and will include evaluation of methods in their conclusions.
We will conclude our work on propaganda during World War 2 and the children will complete their propaganda posters. We will then learn about the role of women during the war and how this period affected women’s lives in Britain. Finally the children will work on a timeline of the last few months of the war, plotting the key events leading to the end of the war. RP
We will conclude our topic of mountains by looking at the impact of tourism in mountain areas by considering the advantages and disadvantages of these activities. We will then have a couple of sessions discovering some geographical information about France and the region the children will be visiting later in the term. SAW
This half term we will continue our study of the Hindu religion. KS
The long awaited and much anticipated trip to Château de la Baudonnière is almost upon us so naturally the focus of all our lessons this half term will be practical preparation in order that your children derive the greatest possible benefit from the visit. Why not take a look at the Château website www.the-chateau.com where you will find lots of information, photographs, practical tips etc. There is even a dedicated parents’ area. Of course, I look forward to meeting you all at our informal information evening on 21st May at 7 p.m. when I will give you final information and answer any questions you may have. TMS
This half term we will begin by learning the different body parts and then move on to clothing. We will learn the names of various foods and drinks and role play ordering in a cafe. TW
The focus for this half term is the internet and the World Wide Web. The children will learn how they work and the differences between them. They will investigate the history of the web and learn how to programme in HTML. They will then use Google Sites to build their own web site. They may use Google Sites at home. We will review internet safety. MHL
This half term we will be rehearsing the songs for the Summer production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. RA
We will be researching and designing costumes and set for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and using it as a starting point for other designs. JT
