What will my child be learning at St. Helen’s College Nursery?

Our Nursery provides a dynamic nurturing environment that is tailored to each child and continually adapted to support their individual growth. Our enhanced provision is thoughtfully planned, guided by regular discussions about the children’s interests, needs and progress.

We value both play-based learning and adult-led teaching, recognising that each plays an important role in a child’s development. Our approach to planning allows teachers to weave key learning objectives naturally into children’s play, where they are most engaged. Through ongoing observation and assessment, we identify each child’s next steps and support them as they move forward. We also use in-the-moment planning, responding instantly to children’s ideas and interests as they explore and lead their own learning.

A shared journey of growth and discovery

At St. Helen’s College, we believe every child grows best when the important adults in their life work together. We believe there are three key educators in a child’s learning: parents, our teachers and the environment around them. Strong parent partnerships are especially important in the Early Years and we pride ourselves on nurturing these.

To keep you closely connected to your child’s day, we use Blossom, an online learning journal, throughout Nursery and Reception. Blossom allows our staff to capture your child’s special ‘golden moments’ with photos, videos and observations, sharing them directly with you through your child’s individual account. Daily communication further supports you in feeling part of your child’s discoveries, achievements and everyday experiences at school, allowing us all to grow and learn together.
