Foundations For Learning

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the national standards for all Early Years educators, ensuring that children learn and develop well in a healthy and safe environment. It supports high-quality teaching and learning so that every child builds a broad base of knowledge and skills – providing the right foundation for future success in school and beyond.

As a legal framework for all Early Years providers working with children from birth to five, the EYFS guides how we create our learning environment, shape our curriculum and support every child in our Nursery. We use the tenets of the EYFS curriculum as a foundation to ensure that each child is nurtured, challenged and encouraged to achieve their very best.

The EYFS also outlines the key outcomes children should reach by the end of their Reception year. It ensures we consider every aspect of children’s development and organises learning into seven interconnected areas, helping us provide a balanced and holistic early education for every child.

Outdoor Learning

Exploring nature through play and discovery

We believe that outdoor play is a vital part of every child’s learning journey and we embrace it in all weathers, from the moment children join our Nursery. Whether through nature sessions in our wooded area, welly walking on a rainy day or exploring our green outdoor spaces and school Zen Garden, children have regular opportunities to connect with nature. They learn to care for the world around them, notice the changing seasons, and experience the joy of fresh air and open space. From Nursery, our pupils are encouraged to partake in our Eco Team initiatives and to have an active voice in how we care for our environment.

By encouraging children to explore and enjoy the natural world, we help them not only to show empathy, but also to develop resilience, curiosity and a lasting respect for our planet.

Specialist Teaching

Building successful breadth of learning

From the age of 2, our Nursery pupils can begin their learning in Spanish, with music, P.E. and drama also commencing once the children move to the Cygnets class aged 3 to 4. These specialist-led lessons with teaching staff fully qualified in their respective subject, are integrated weekly into the Nursery timetable and offer every child the opportunity to explore and develop new interests, skills and experience breadth of learning.
