Led by our Admissions Team, Sharon Clements and Louise Rooney, we will guide and support you through all stages of the admissions process, from first contact to first day and beyond.
We understand the importance of finding the right school for your child and know that families appreciate a personal approach as they embark on this journey. At St. Helen’s College we support admissions throughout all stages of the school and ensure we tailor our admissions support to each individual child.
We strongly encourage all families to book a visit to the school to meet the Head, Senior Leadership Team and staff, and enjoy a student-led tour around our beautiful site and facilities. We also hold a range of open events throughout the year providing opportunities for families to experience all that St. Helen’s College has to offer.
We are a very popular school and recommend registering as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Admissions process
At all entry points, children are admitted on the understanding that it is the intention of the parents for their child to continue at St. Helen’s College through to the end of Year 6.
Nursery Entry (2+, 3+)
- Places for our Nursery are offered on a first come, first served basis, subject to pre-admissions information supplied by parents as requested by the school, and subject to a successful ‘Stay And Play’ visit.
- Siblings of children already at St. Helen’s College are given priority for places, subject to being registered while there are places still available.
- Children attending our Nursery are given priority for Reception places when they become eligible by age to move into Reception.
Reception Entry (4+)
- The number of Reception places available each year varies but usually the school has limited places to offer to external candidates.
- 4+ assessments take place in January/February each year for entry into Reception the following September.
Children are invited to school in small groups for an assessment session lasting approximately 40 minutes. - Assessment criteria are based on the Early Learning Goals of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum; teachers must be satisfied that children will be able to flourish alongside the children already in our Nursery classes.
- The School contacts previous settings to request a reference for each child.
- We look for teachability, sociability, curiosity and communication skills in our 4+ assessments.
- Offers of places are made in the days immediately following the entry meetings, with parents given a strict two-week deadline for accepting the place and paying a deposit.
- Where it is necessary for the school to hold children on waiting lists, the procedure is explained clearly to parents and further places are offered as soon as possible.
Other Entry Points
- Places occasionally become available at other times, in which case parents of children on the waiting list are contacted and invited to bring their child in for assessment.
- Entry at all levels after 4+ is subject to assessment and a report from the school previously attended by the child.
